Sidewalk repair and replacement
Most broken sidewalk in Pasadena traces back to the parkway: street tree roots lift a panel, the joint opens into a trip edge, and the panel cracks across. The lasting fix is to saw-cut out the damaged panels at the nearest joints, deal with the roots with the City's say-so, and pour new panels that match the line and grade of the rest of the walk. The Pasadena sidewalk repair and parkway trees guide covers who pays and the tree rules.

| Job | Area | New concrete | Break out old |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two 5 x 5 ft panels | 50 sq ft | $400 to $750 | $70 to $115 |
| A 5 ft walk, 30 ft long | 150 sq ft | $1,200 to $2,250 | $210 to $345 |
| A 5 ft walk, 60 ft frontage | 300 sq ft | $2,400 to $4,500 | $420 to $690 |

$8 to $15 per sq ft installed and $1.40 to $2.30 per sq ft demolition (constructlytools LA, May 2026). Permit and any tree work are extra.
Curb and gutter
The curb holds the edge of the street and the gutter carries rain to the storm drain, so a new run has to match the flowline of the gutter on each side or water stands against it. Curb and gutter is formed and poured as one piece, or cut and replaced in sections where a short length has broken or been lifted by roots.
| Run | Curb and gutter | Curb only |
|---|---|---|
| 25 linear ft | $1,583 to $1,945 | $1,177 to $1,453 |
| 50 linear ft | $3,166 to $3,889 | $2,355 to $2,905 |
| 100 linear ft | $6,332 to $7,778 | $4,709 to $5,810 |

Homewyse national averages, May 2026: curb and gutter $63.32 to $77.78 per linear ft, curb only $47.09 to $58.10. Removal of the old curb and the permit are extra.
Private curbs in parking lots
Inside a private lot, concrete curbs edge planters and drive aisles and keep cars off walks. These don't go through Public Works, but they still have to drain: a curb that dams water against a planter or a building is a curb that has to come out again. Wheel stops are a separate, cheaper way to stop cars at a walk; see the commercial concrete contractor in Pasadena page.

Driveway approaches and curb ramps
The approach is the sloped section that crosses the parkway and drops through the curb. It is built to the City's standard under a Public Works permit; the Pasadena driveway permits and curb cuts guide covers that, and the driveway behind it is on the concrete driveways in Pasadena page. Where a walk meets the street or a lot, the curb ramp and its yellow detectable warnings follow California's Chapter 11B; see ADA concrete ramps in Pasadena.
